The chairman of Mossley Hill Athletics Club has called on more financial support for community clubs fighting to survive through the pandemic.

Arthur Carson says the “neglect” of these clubs by local councils and funding boards has left many struggling for financial survival.

Mossley Hill has had to rely on function bookings in its social club to ensure it can keep going.

He says the club plays a key role in the community, providing a safe place for social events and children to play sport.

Mossley Hill is linked with Liverpool City Council, schools in the area and organisations such as residents groups, who hold  meetings in the club free of charge.

Mr Carson believes the club is crucial in ensuring youngsters can continue to enjoy team sports into adulthood – providing a structure and a goal in their lives and keeping them out of trouble.

He continued:
