10th placed Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Prenton Park this Sunday, needing to get back on track to ease their relegation fears.

In a tight Women’s Super League, victory will put them level on points with Villa who are currently 8th having picked up two wins in the first six games.

Matt Beard’s side are yet to pick up three points since the shock open day win against last years champions Chelsea, leaving them just outside of the bottom two on goal difference. A first win in four games would provide a significant boost. Liverpool can take heart from their pre season win over Aston Villa. Liverpool have only scored three goals in five games. The defence is yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this year.

Carla Ward’s team are without a win in their last three matches and are at risk of being dragged into a relegation battle. A win for the Claret and Blue’s would give them breathing space as well as putting them in the mix for a top four finish. It would also take them six points clear of Liverpool.

Sunday’s battle is the perfect opportunity for both teams to put a marker down for future aspirations. Staying in the league will now be seen as a success for Liverpool. For Aston Villa, a win is a must for them to challenge higher up the table and possibly a European spot.
