Southport and AFC Liverpool face off in the Liverpool Senior Cup quarter-finals at Haig Avenue tomorrow (February 14).
The game will be the first ever competitive match between the two teams.
Southport are the current holders of the Liverpool Senior Cup, having won the trophy in 2019.
The 19/20 competition was unfinished due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and this is the first year the competition has run since.
The match will mark Southport’s 2,500th non-league game in all competitions.
Southport saw off Runcorn Town in the second round with a comfortable 6-0 win to progress to the quarter-finals.
AFC Liverpool advanced after beating Lower Breck 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.
While Southport are the current holders, AFC Liverpool have never won the competition.
They last reached the final in 2015, where they were beaten 5-4 by Skelmersdale United.
Southport have only won one of their last five games, a 2-1 win against Chorley.
AFC Liverpool have also only won one of their last five matches, a 3-2 win against Longridge Town.
AFC Liverpool have conceded two or more goals in their last four games.
Southport have had more time to prepare for the clash, with their last game taking place on February 4th.
AFC Liverpool have had only three days to prepare, having played their last match on February 11th.
A place in the semi-finals is at stake, with Southport looking to retain their title while AFC Liverpool haven’t appeared in the semi-finals since 2015.
