Cheshire Phoenix will be looking to consolidate second place of the British Basketball League as they take on Caledonia Gladiators this Sunday.

They return home to the Cheshire Oaks Arena for just the second time since their victory against London Lions to secure the BBL Trophy for the sixth time in their history.

Ben Thomas’ side will be looking to make it 10 wins in a row in all competitions after a close win win over Bristol Flyers last weekend. Phoenix ramped up their efforts in the fourth to take the lead and hold off any late Flyers surge. Skyler White’s energy in the first minute of the fourth led to a 20-4 run for the visitors which ultimately handed the win to the North West side.

Phoenix go into the fixture having beaten the Gladiators in their last five meetings, most recently in January in what was also a close tie finishing 97-100. Both sides sit level on points and will be looking to keep the pressure on high flying London Lions.

Cam Christon will be one to watch after an impressive performance last weekend. The Texas born guard poses an all round threat to opponents with his ability to shoot comfortably from three-point range and drive hard to the basket.

The Gladiators come into the fixture with what could be a depleted squad after their lead scorer Patrick Whelan suffered a hand injury forcing him to the side-lines against Surrey Scorchers in their previous fixture.

Prince Onwas will be a likely threat to the home side as he continues to prove himself as one of the league’s highest intensity defenders. The 28-year-old has expansive range of experience and leadership with a seasoned career spanning Australia, NBA G-League, Germany and Spain.

There is no doubt Thomas will be looking to achieve more success after already winning the BBL Trophy this season.

The game will broadcasted live on Sunday at 6pm over on the British Basketball League YouTube channel.
