Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he will be without five key players ahead of the Reds’ clash with Luton Town on Wednesday night.

The Premier League match could be crucial to the Merseyside outfit’s title hopes, with Klopp’s side leading the pack as we enter the business end of the season.

However, a mounting injury list threatens to derail Liverpool’s title charge and Klopp confirmed he will be without Alisson, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai for the midweek clash with the Hatters.

He said: “We will see tomorrow who made it and who didn’t make it. Trent and Dom are on the way back, but not in team training yet, so not available.

“It is not great, I would like to sit here and say there are no issues. As long as we have 11 players, we will go for it.”

Jota was forced off in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Brentford on Saturday, with Klopp stating: “Diogo, it will obviously take months.

“With injuries you have important days, so day five, day 10, when you judge the situation again because nobody reacts the same way and it depends on the pain level they still have and stuff like this.

“I could not give you a time frame even if I wanted to.”

The depleted squad have stepped up their preparations ahead of the clash with Rob Edwards’ side, with Klopp admitting he will be looking to promote youth due to the lengthy injury list.

This has been a common theme throughout Klopp’s reign at the club, having promoted prospects such as Alexander-Arnold and kickstarting fellow full-back Conor Bradley’s unbelievable rise.

The German added: “We will see how many of them we will have to use.

“We have options there definitely, players who showed already what they can do like James [McConnell] or Bobby [Clark] and others who did not feature yet but are in and around that.

“[Lewis] Koumas, Dannsy [Jayden Danns], Trey [Nyoni] are all massive talents. We will see what we will do.”

Luton, despite sitting in the relegation zone, have shown their prowess in their inaugural Premier League campaign.

The Hatters have proved difficult to beat and held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at Kenilworth Road.

Klopp said: “Tomorrow night is an incredibly important game for us against a really good side.

“Rob and the job he is doing there is insane. The team with the amount of points they had in the beginning of the season, making such a footballing development, I am not sure I saw that before.

“It will be a tough one. We need Anfield, 100%, it must be like a European night. They deserve respect and we have to show that with a proper Liverpool performance. Everybody who enters the gate to Anfield has to be on their toes tomorrow night because they are really good.”

The league fixture is of huge significance at both ends of the table. Liverpool need a win to continue their hopes of giving their manager a fairytale ending after he announced he would be departing at the end of the season, with Luton eyeing up three points to help steer them to safety.
