England and Lancashire spinner Tom Hartley has heaped praise on Ormskirk Cricket Club for aiding his early cricket development.

Speaking at Lancashire’s media day ahead of the County Championship season, the spinner praised Ormskirk CC for his fast development.

Hartley said: “They saw something in me thankfully and progressed me up pretty fast”.

Hartley continued on how the senior players at Ormskirk instilled a great mindset into him and how he has taken this forward into his career.

“The older guys really pushed me, let me open the batting, bowl lots of overs and just like really good for my mentality.

They were such good lads, I remember just laughing every weekend and I think that is why I wanted to carry on playing.”

Hartley will be looking to build on a solid County Championship season, where he took 19 wickets at an average of 44.84.

The spinner will be seeking more time in the field, as Lancashire’s opening fixture against Surrey only saw 80 overs bowled.
