Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz has been heavily scrutinized since joining Liverpool this summer.
How does the German fare compared to other £100 million plus signings?
Neymar
Neymar is the most expensive signing of all time, dating back to the 17/18 season costing €222 million.
He started the campaign off with six goals and five assists in Ligue 1 in the first six games and two goals and two assists at the start of the Champions League campaign.
The Brazilian had a superb start, and his performances made the fee look justified.
Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe initially joined PSG on a season long loan from Monaco before making the move permanent in the 17/18 season at the age of 18 years old for a huge fee.
He got two goals and two assists in the league to start the campaign and one goal and one assist in the Champions League.
For his age and the fee of €180 million, it was a good start.
Ousmane Dembele
Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele made the big money move back in 17/18 with Dortmund to Barcelona but struggled at the start of his spell at the club.
The Frenchman registered only one assist in three games with his season being halted by injury at the start of the campaign.
Alexander Isak
New Liverpool signing Isak has only played 238 minutes so far in the campaign, after having no preseason with Newcastle and joining at the latter stages of the transfer window.
He has managed one goal in the EFL cup but hasn’t got the match fitness and sharpness to play more minutes for now.
Joao Felix
Joao Felix signed for Atletico Madrid in the 19/20 season and managed to get two goals and one assist in La Liga as well as one goal in the Champions League.
For the fee, it was an okay start for the 19-year-old in the new climate after coming over to Spain from Portugal.
Jude Bellingham
Jude Bellingham, who positionally is most similar to Wirtz in this list, joined Madrid in 23/24 and had a great start to life in Spain.
He registered six goals and two assists in seven league games and two goals and one assist in the Champions League.
Both players left Germany to go and have a new experience and the Englishman started off the campaign in great fashion.
Florian Wirtz
Florian Wirtz joined Liverpool for a Premier League record fee at the time, at 22 years old he had a lot of hype and expectation at the start of the season.
He has struggled with numbers which is what attack minded players are typically judged on.
Wirtz got an assist in the Community Shield in his first competitive game for the reds but since hasn’t had a return.
The German’s underlying stats show promise and he has had the backing of Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish in recent days.

All stats are per 90 minutes played during the player’s respective season:
PrgC = Progressive Carries
PrgP= Progressive Passes
PrgR= Progressive Passes Received
xG= Expected Goals
xAG= Expected assists
Enzo Fernandez
Enzo Fernandez is the only January signing in this list and is less attacking minded than most of the players in the list but still managed to get two assists in the Premier League during the start of his life of the 22/23 campaign.
Jack Grealish
New Everton signing Jack Grealish has started the season in excellent fashion but back in the 21/22 season he made his £100 million move to Manchester City.
He managed to register one goal and one assist in the league and one goal in the Champions League.
It doesn’t quite amount to the start he had at Everton which won him the Premier League player of the month award.
Does hitting the ground running equal success?
It isn’t always about how you start but how you finish. Ousmane Dembele had his struggles and just had an outstanding campaign and won the Ballon d’Or.
The PSG man had never been nominated for the award previously and he took it home with him.
Wirtz has already been nominated and he has only just started what will be a long successful career.
