Everton’s maiden season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium has rightfully been a cause for optimism amongst fans, with signings like Jack Grealish on loan and ex-Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall reinforcing that feeling.
However, the Toffees’ only centre-forward options have just two goals in all competitions between them, with Beto failing to find the back of the net since August, forcing David Moyes to turn to summer signing Thierno Barry who is yet to take his chance in the squad.
This issue has plagued Everton for a while now, and they have seen a revolving door of strikers come and go as they try to find a solution.
Youssef Chermiti
Beto’s arrival prior to the 2023/24 season saw him paired with the £11 million signing of Sporting CP academy graduate Youssef Chermiti, who was brought in with an eye towards the future, as he was just 19 years old when he came to Goodison Park.
The Portuguese prospect made 18 Premier League appearances without scoring in his first season, before unfortunately missing 23 games through injury the following year and eventually was shipped to Rangers this summer for £7.6 million.
Neal Maupay
Neal Maupay swapped Sussex for Merseyside in the summer window of 2022 for a fee of around £10.5 million after Everton avoided relegation by four points in the previous season.
What followed was a disastrous campaign for both the club and player as Sean Dyche saved the Toffees from relegation following Frank Lampard’s mid-season sacking, but with no thanks for Maupay who managed just one league goal in 27 games all season.
By the next summer window, the then 26-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements and returned to Brentford for a season-long loan before joining Marseille in 2024 for just shy of £4 million.
Moise Kean
Skipping over Salomon Rondon and Josh King who were brought in for free, Everton secured the signature of promising Italian talent Moise Kean, investing £24 million on the Juventus academy graduate.
In his first and only full season at the club, the then 19-year-old netted just two league goals in 29 appearances after playing second fiddle to Dominic Calvert-Lewin towards the halting of the league due to Covid-19.
The following campaign, Kean was sent on loan to PSG where he managed to score 13 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances and he is now back in Italy with Fiorentina after returning to the Old Lady on a three-year deal.
Richarlison
Surely one of two contenders for the title of last Everton striker signing to become a success, Richarlison enjoyed four lucrative seasons at Goodison Park after making the move from Watford for £35 million in 2018.
The Brazilian managed to net double figures for Premier League goals in three of his four Everton campaigns, something that no other striker on this list has managed.
Richarlison achieved somewhat of a cult hero status when he scored the equaliser against Crystal Palace in 2022, a game that they went on to win late securing their safety in the Premier League.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Calvert-Lewin is going to give Richarlison a run for his money in terms of success in recent years.
The now Leeds United number nine spent almost a decade at the Toffees after leaving his boyhood club Sheffield United in 2016, with his best goalscoring season coming under Ancelotti where he grabbed 16 goals in 33 Premier League games.
Calvert-Lewin’s most famous moment for Everton is by far the winning goal he scored in the win against Crystal Palace to keep the Toffees up.
His form was short lived, though, with persistent injuries, limiting him to just one more Premier League goal in his four remaining seasons.
