AFC Liverpool left it late to equalise against Cheadle Town with vice captain Owen Fisher-Jones scoring in the 90th minute of this North West Counties League fixture.

The first half began with the away team pressing more confidently. AFC were able to respond with a counterattack, but the cross was blocked.

It took captain, Adam Moorcroft, to set up the first real chance for the home side in the 20th minute when he drove into the box and slid a pass through to Elliot Taylor, whose shot deflected wide.

Soon after, in the 22nd minute, Cheadle’s Izac Khan crossed into the box, which landed perfectly for Sheriff Njie to roll it past Ben Barnes, putting the visitors 1-0 up.

The response from the hosts was noticeable and they dominated possession for the next five minutes.

This led to a 28th minute equaliser after Taylor crossed the back to the back post, where Moorcroft was waiting to head to Cameron Rooney who finished the move.

AFC started to look livelier, however, the absence of star striker Caleb Jones was evident, as they missed two chances from inside the 12-yard box.

This allowed Cheadle to get back into a rhythm and just before half time, Ollie Ford put them ahead again with a shot from inside the six-yard box.

Cheadle came out in the second half on-top, and it was clear they had begun to hold out for the 2-1 win, as the home side looked more aggressive in attack.

AFC were in desperate need of a point or three this afternoon, as it would move them further away from the relegation zone.

Rooney gave them a first glimpse of hope in the 59th minute but his shot drifted wide and 10 minutes later he had another go that went skyward.

Cheadle then started to pick up the pace again, but were having just as much luck with accuracy.

AFC searched desperately for another goal, even sending keeper Barnes up for their last corner.

And it was just as the fourth official signalled for six minutes of injury time that Fisher-Jones broke through a scramble in the box to equalise for AFC, scoring his first goal of the season.

The result puts AFC up to 20th place and further away from danger.
