Merseyside Nighthawks, Liverpool’s only adult American Football team and Division One North Champions will start their pre-season process on Tuesday with their first rookie try-out.
However, despite the Nighthawks’ accomplishments and the NFL’s ever-growing popularity in this country, there’s still little knowledge that there is a fully-operational league system in the UK operated by BAFA, the British American Football Association.
Linebacker and social media manager for the Nighthawks, Ikechi Apakam, says the try-outs are important for recruitment but people still arrive with a limited knowledge of the sport.
Ex-player and current coach Daniel O’Connell said some people aren’t aware of grassroots teams in this country.
