Liverpool boxer Molly McCann raised the roof at the M&S Bank Arena after a dominant victory over Ashleigh Johnson.

The 35-year-old beat Johnson 78-74 on the judge’s scorecard, taking her record to 4-0 in boxing.

‘Meatball Molly’ entered the ring in style as she walked out to a live performance from fellow scouser, Jamie Webster, in one of the best entrances in boxing this year.

The walk-out certainly matched the energy in the fight. McCann was powerful in her punches, utilized the ring well, and was defensively solid.

After the fight, McCann and Johnson shared a special moment in the changing room, both showing immense amounts of respect to each other.

McCann told Johnson: “That’s everything I’ve dreamed of, I hope it was for you too.

“I know you didn’t get the decision, but for women, in front of that, to hear them (the fans) going off their heads was powerful.”

On her Instagram page, McCann also said: “Saturday will stay with me for the remainder of my days!

“To anyone who’s chasing their dreams and feels like it’s never coming, I’m 36 next week and only just starting to live mine!

“FAITH OR FEAR, never both! Hopefully I will be out again, as soon as possible.”

The former UFC star has taken boxing by storm, fighting four times since September, and winning all bouts.

Paddy Pimblett, the number 6th ranked UFC Lightweight, was in Molly’s corner on Saturday, showcasing Liverpool’s talent in the combat sports world.

‘The Baddy’ has been rumoured to fight Benoit Saint-Denis and he hinted that it would be in July during International Fight Week, in what would be a title-eliminator.

McCann has stated that she is eager to fight again soon, hoping to add another name to her repertoire.
