Third choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman could start for Liverpool against Crystal Palace tomorrow as manager Arne Slot prepares to face the Eagles for the fourth time this season.
The Reds head into the final five games of the Premier League as they look to further solidify a place in the Champions League for next season.
Goalkeeper crisis at Liverpool
With both Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili now on the sidelines with injury, it’s likely to be Woodman between the sticks.
Slot said: “I’m thinking about Woodman, if he has to start then I think a player like him definitely need a lot of support from our fans.”
Woodman replaced the injured Mamardashvili in the 2-1 Merseyside derby win last weekend, with Slot confirming the Georgian will not be available tomorrow or for the next few weeks.
The Reds manager also said Alisson is close to returning to play and hinted: “Let’s see if tomorrow comes too early.”
The Brazilian has come under speculation regarding his future, with Slot saying: “We don’t react to rumours, we only react in the moment.
“That leaves Freddie, who is definitely fit.
“It would fit this season completely if something were to happen to Freddie tomorrow.”
Slot says his full focus is on Palace, a team they’ve faced three times this season and failed to beat.
Number 9s a problem
He spoke of Liverpool’s difficulty scoring goals this year and highlighted the absence of number 9s in the team.
Slot says they are seeing progress with Alexander Isak, with the striker set to start with Hugo Ekitike also injured.
The Frenchman has had successful surgery this week with Slot saying: “He can now work on his recovery which will take a long time.”
If Palace were to beat Liverpool tomorrow, they would become the first team in history to ever beat the Reds four times in one season.
A win for the Reds tomorrow could draw them level with Manchester United and Aston Villa as they look to go four home league games unbeaten.
