Warrington darts ace Luke Littler, in pursuit of top spot in the BetMGM Premier League, says he’s “going to go chasing” leader Jonny Clayton in Scotland.

The Premier League returns for Night 13 in Aberdeen tonight (April 30) at 7.10pm.

The world number one recorded his fourth nightly win in Liverpool last week, thumping league leader Jonny Clayton 6-1 in the final.

Littler currently sits second, three points behind Clayton, but with four weeks left to play before the play-offs, all is not said and done.

“I want to be number one”

During his press conference in Liverpool last week, he said: “I want to finish top once again.

“If it’s not to be, it’s not to be, but there’s still four weeks to go.

“After beating me last week, it’s good to get that win over him.

“I don’t want to be chasing him, I want to be at the top cruising, but I want to be number one.”

A different approach?

Professional Darts Corporation’s chief executive Matt Porter told Sky Sports that Littler has thrived on Premier League fans’ hostility but may need “a different approach”.

He said: “It’s difficult because darts crowds can tend to follow patterns.

“They copy what they see the week before.

“So once you get on a little bit of a run of having a certain reaction from the crowd, you need to do something to reverse that.

“I think really it’s going to be up to Luke, whether he feels it’s something he finds quite funny and whether he can deal with it, or if it’s something that he wants to change, then you might see a different approach.”

What’s at stake

“The Nuke” will face Josh Rock in the quarter-finals in Aberdeen, an opponent he’s never lost to throughout his career.

His Merseyside counterpart Stephen Bunting will face Gerwyn Price in his quest to qualify for the play-offs at the O2.

“The Bullet” currently sits 7th, seven points off the play-off spots.

With reigning champion Luke Humphries trailing in 6th place, this year presents a great opportunity for Littler to claim the title at the O2, which he’s yet to win in his career.
