Liverpool had the perfect preparation for Sunday afternoon’s Carabao Cup Final with a 6-0 thrashing of Leeds at Anfield.
The reds managed to cut Manchester City’s lead at the top of the Premier League to three points, having been 14 adrift in mid-January.
Liverpool don’t play again in the League until 5th March, and face the prospect of Chelsea at Wembley this weekend.
The Blues come into the final high on confidence after a comfortable 2-0 win over Lille on Tuesday night.
Both teams beat North London sides in the Semi-Finals, with Chelsea overcoming Spurs and Liverpool seeing off Arsenal.
A win on Sunday would be Liverpool’s first League Cup since 2012, where they beat Cardiff City on penalties.
Jurgen Klopp faces an agonising wait on the fitness of Diogo Jota, who has missed the last two games through injury.
Speaking before the Leeds game, Klopp noted the worrying signs for both Jota and Firmino, who is also sidelined.
“They’re not on the training pitch so it is not a good sign”
“We’ll decide in a week”, Klopp said.
Liverpool will be expected to start with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz in attack at Wembley.
This trio has eight goals between them in Liverpool’s last three fixtures.
The centre back partnership of Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk will come into the game in good spirits.
Both defenders scored in Liverpool’s resounding win last night.
Virgil Van Dijk spoke about the final after the match.
“It’s going to be hopefully a good day. But no doubt its going to be hard” said Van Dijk.
