St Helens coach Paul Wellens says his team are prepared to suffer tomorrow for a place in the Super League Grand Final.

The 10-time champions face table toppers Hull KR in the Super League semi-final at Craven Park.

And Wellens insists his side will do whatever it takes to reach a first final since 2022.

‘‘People talk about giving 100%… champions do, they’re prepared to suffer,” he said.

Saints used every inch of determination when they beat Leeds Rhinos 16-14 in the quarter-final last weekend. The visitors made the impossible happen when Shane Wright scored a try to snatch the game in the last play.

Wellens admitted his players are riding the wave of emotion from last weekend but is making sure they “have a mindset around finding the necessary improvements.”

The coach said playmaker Kyle Feldt could be in the frame to play as he battles to overcome a back injury.

‘‘He’s trained on field today, moved a bit better than he did last week,” said the coach.

“We’ll make a call in 24 hours after monitoring his response. So, if Kyle’s fit… great, if he’s not, we know Jon (Bennison) will do a great job for us.’

“I can’t imagine there being any changes. I’m obviously delighted with their performance last week and the way the players went about their business.

“So, within that, there’s improvements that need to be made but I’m confident that we make those improvements and can be competitive on Saturday.’’

As well as the Robins having home advantage, they also have had a week off by virtue of finishing top of the table.

“Most teams would prefer to have a week off going into a big game,” said Wellens.

“What I’m tasked with is to deal with the reality of a situation, and that was going to Headingley and beating a very good side.’

‘’We’re all usually motivated by this opportunity.

“I know from experience that if you get call up thinking about Old Trafford, then you quickly get side-tracked. And, the most important thing, that’s going to them and perform them well.’’
