Darren Till has announced that the first bare-knuckle fighting event by Gorilla Promotions will be held at Box Park Liverpool on the 17th of January.

The news follows Till’s initial founding of the Gorilla Promotion last week, where he outlined plans to create an eight-man tournament.

The Liverpool-born athlete has not had an easy run throughout his career.

After dropping out of school aged 14, Till got into numerous altercations, one of which resulting in him getting stabbed in the back.

His coach then sent him to train in Brazil, where he spent three years in Balneario Camboriu with the Astra Fight Team.

Speaking to ‘Bloody elbow’ fellow boxer, Stephen Thompson spoke about the importance of the new competition to Till’s career. He said:

“I’m super proud of Darren Till, I really am.

“Especially the hard time that he’s had with the UFC and up and coming, had some wins and had some losses and didn’t really know where he wanted to go.”

So far, the names of five boxers who will be competing in the tournament have been released.

Yesterday, Gorilla Promotions announced that Luke Dyson will join the fight card.

Dyson, who is the self-proclaimed ‘most active fighter in the UK’ is not shy of controversy as he has had a number of ineligible bouts.

So, with his controversy and social media presence combined, the Yorkshireman is sure to bring plenty of attention to January’s tournament.

The card also includes BKFC star Luke Nevin, a middleweight bareknuckle fighter who has been big within the circuit since 2022.

Mikey Henderson, better known as ‘El Animal’, was the second fighter to be announced, also from BKFC.

Henderson is a Liverpool based Light Heavyweight who had never fought in a professional or amateur boxing match before signing for BKFC.

Gorilla announced that Pic ‘The Mauler’ Jardine will also be joining the cohort as a 34-year-old Middleweight, who began his fighting career in MMA.

On Sunday, the organisation reported that William Goldie-Galloway, a Star Pro Combat boxer will be joining the tournament as the fourth fighter to be announced.

The prize for the January event will be £10,000 and a ‘prestigious’ Gorilla Promotions belt.

Alongside this, the fighters will also be paid throughout the tournament.

Following in the footsteps of the popular Misfits Promotion, there is also going to be ‘special matchups’ featuring celebrities, in the hope to soon overtake Misfits in popularity.

Box Park is one of Liverpool’s newest developments that hosts a number of sport related events, such as football viewing parties and other MMA Live events like the Kingdom Combat Championships.

The announcement of Till’s new venture closely followed his Knockout victory over Luke Rockhold in August.
