Ibrahima Konate has taken to social media in response to criticism of the Liverpool players after a poor start to the season.

The centre back has started in all 17 Premier League and Champions League games this term following the Reds title winning campaign last year.

Konate’s social media posts come in the midst of Liverpool’s poor run of form which has seen the Frenchmen at the centre of some very difficult conversations regarding the ongoing problems.

On Wednesday night, Arne Slot’s side fell to their ninth defeat in 12  games against Dutch side PSV with both the manager and players under scrutiny.

The fixture was Konate’s 150th appearance for the club but it was his mistake that led to PSV’s third goal. There has been increased scrutiny of the player, causing Konate to respond via social media with a message to the fans.

Posting the same message to X and Instagram, he said: “Take this moment on the chest. Criticism is part of football, and we’ll fight back every time and come through this storm. In these moments, the fans matter most…

“We know we need to improve and we’ll keep fighting for you. Always.”

His message has resulted in over 154,000 likes on Instagram in just 17 hours whilst his X post has had 2,000,000 views in the same amount of time.

Liverpool sit 12th in the Premier League, below rivals Manchester United and Everton. This is a monumental drop from their first-place finish last season, however the Frenchman believes the side and himself have to.

His mistake for PSV’s third resulted in him being substituted. The Frenchmen seemed to completely miss the ball before PSV broke for Couhaib Driouech to score the first of his eventual brace.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid to join ex-teammate Trent Alexander Arnold. However, as reported by The Athletic, the Galactico’s have “directly and unequivocally” informed Liverpool they have no interest in signing to signing the defender.

The 26-year old’s future is uncertain with just a few months left on his Liverpool contract.

Many fans speculated across social media that the defender’s recent dip in form has come due to the transfer speculation and apparent interest from the European giants.
