Martina Fernandez scored a 90th minute winner to secure Everton’s first three points at Goodison Park in a 2-1 win against Aston Villa in the WSL. Villa took the lead through Ebony Salmon, but Everton equalised through Fernandez, and the Spaniard scored the winner to take Everton to ninth in the league.

Liverpool remain bottom of the WSL after being beaten 3-1 away at Manchester United. The defeat came on a poignant afternoon, as wreaths were laid in a pre-match tribute at the Progress With Unity Stadium on the 68th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster. 

Liverpool ended a five-game winless Premier League run as Hugo Ekitike’s brace lead the comeback in a 4-1 win over Newcastle United at Anfield. Newcastle took the lead through Anthony Gordon but a quick-fire Ekitike double turned it around before the break.

A 97th minute equaliser from birthday boy Beto earned Everton a point in a 1-1 draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium. The Toffees arrived at the south coast with a much-changed side, as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Michael Keane and Jarrad Branthwaite all returned to the starting XI.

Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish could miss the remainder of the season with Everton expecting him to require surgery. Grealish had two goals and six assists in 20 Premier League appearances this season for the Toffees.

Everton boss David Moyes believes the Toffees have “stepped up”, despite numerous injuries and recent departures for AFCON. And he says he wants his team to "look even better" as they host Leeds on Monday night (January 26th) in the Premier League.
