The Second Round of the European Championship of Darts, an all-Merseyside affair was won by the St Helen’s man, Michael Smith by ten legs to seven against Stephen Bunting.
Dave Chisnall also picked up a quarter-final place after an easy 10-4 victory against Jonny Clayton. In a game where he averaged just shy of 110, picking up 11 180s in the process. He plays against Northern Irishman Daryl Gurney tomorrow.
However, a very stylish performance by Smith saw him race into a three leg lead from the outset.
With Bunting having two on the bounce after this, it was a only a mere blip in the form of the Bully Boy.
Racking up four 180’s and 57 100+ visits, Smith only managed to lose his throw twice and a 158 checkout was a great way to make his mark.
Bunting spoke to Merseysportlive yesterday after his victory over Keegan Brown, he said: “[I] was sick this morning, so hopefully I’m over that now”.
But it wasn’t to be, for one unwell Scouser, although a positive note was that he did manage to finish in style when given the opportunity (53.75%). Also a 146 checkout was another good side.
For Michael Smith, the quarter final place is secured with a matchup against the Dutchman Jeffrey De Zwaan after his win against Jermaine Wattimena.
