Runcorn Linnets fall to a 31 defeat at the hands of League Two side, Crewe Alexandra, in the first round of the Cheshire Senior Cup.

Crewe named a young side against the non-league opposition and they were able to showcase their talents.

The Railwaymen dominated the entire first half with Linnets keeper Richie Mottram pulling off some great saves to minimize the damage.

It wasn’t until the 22nd minute that the League Two side put themselves in front.

Midfielder Oliver Finney slotted the ball into the bottom corner, leaving Mottram flat-footed.

Crewe did not slow down, as chances from Connor Heath and Finney missed the target.

Linnets were unable to get out of first gear in the first-half, which saw the young men of Crewe much of the half.

A rare moment of magic in the match for Runcorn as Louis Corrigan equalizes directly from a corner.

Runcorn could have taken the lead as substitute Peter Wylie had his shot cleared off the line.

The score was only level for a matter of 14 minutes, though. Luke Offord restored Crewe’s lead as he dispatched Callum Ainley’s cross.

The youngsters finally gained some breathing space when Regan Griffiths smashed home the third.

The Railwaymen will now face Tranmere Rovers in the second round of the Cheshire Senior Cup.
