Liverpool travel to London to entertain Chelsea in the FA Cup 5th round tomorrow, three days after their first league loss at Vicarage Road to Watford.

Their latest FA Cup encounter with the eight-time champions was the 2012 Final at Wembley. Andy Carroll’s goal was not enough to dent Chelsea’s hopes of the domestic crown.

This game was more memorable for a dubbed phantom goal, which could have been given with goal-line technology today.

Here is a reminder of the 2012 Final, including the Geordie’s ‘goal’ in 2012:

This game was Liverpool’s last FA Cup Final appearance and Chelsea won the game 2-1, with goals from Ramires and Didier Drogba.

The Reds’ FA Cup record against Chelsea is a real mixed bag, especially since the 1980’s. Chelsea winning three of the last five.

2011-12           Final Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool. Wembley
2005-06           Semi-final Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea. Old Trafford
1996-97           4th round Chelsea 4-2 Liverpool
1985-86           4th round Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool
1981-82           5th Round Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool

Looking to tomorrow, in his press conference at Melwood, Jurgen Klopp said:

“We play away at Chelsea and are expected to win, but they still have lots of experience.”

Liverpool still have some notable absentees in the squad. the likes of captain Jordan Henderson still sidelined.

Klopp did however give out some good news on the injury front. He said:

“Joe [Gomez] and Milly[James Milner] are back, the others are not.”
