Some Liverpool fans could benefit from free tickets if they reach the Champions League final this season.

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin today announced fans of the participating teams at the Champions League and Europa League finals will be offered a “substantial number of free tickets” as a reward for supporting European football during COVID.

Champions League finalists are in line for 5,000 free ones each, and Europa League finalists 4,000 tickets each.

These tickets will be allocated to clubs for free and are to be distributed to each of the club’s most ‘loyal’ fans.

Free ones given out by UEFA cannot be given to sponsors, partners or club officials.

In addition, UEFA have frozen the price of Category 3 and Category 4 tickets to the Champions League final in 2022, 2023 and 2024, keeping the same prices in place as 2020.

UEFA have come under fire in recent years for the structure of ticketing allocation for finals, with vast numbers allocated to sponsors and partners of UEFA.

Liverpool fans will be excited about the prospect of a free ticket to the Champions League final, with their Last 16 tie against Inter taking place this week.
