Wirral AC’s Sam Lunt, 17, continued his good form as he helped Team GB & NI to victory in the Dynamic New Athletics event in Madrid, Spain.

The sprinter won his mixed 2x200m relay with partner Sophie Walton (Horwich) ahead of the Czech Republic.

Lunt’s victory comes after a strong showing at the weekends British Indoor Athletics Championships where he made the semi-finals of the men’s 400 metres.

Liverpool Harrier Meg Corker had to settle for second place in the women’s 60 metre hurdles behind Spain’s Sofia Coscuelluela.

Corker, 18, who was unbeaten coming into the event crossed the line in 8.47 seconds, 0.05 behind her personal best she set last month.

Strong North West contingent

There were more great results elsewhere by the U20 Team GB & NI team. Alongside the Merseyside athletes, more North Western success came on the track.

Indienne King (2nd in the women’s 800m), Ashley Nemits (1st in the 4x400m mixed relay) and Ava Lloyd (1st in “The Hunt” finale race) were strong results for Wigan and District.

Isaac Kambamba Delaney (Preston) finished 3rd in the men’s shot put competition behind rivals from France and Spain.
