Southport golfer Tommy Fleetwood, currently ranked 26 in the world, shot a level par 72 after a difficult front nine holes at TPC Sawgrass at The Players Championship.

The Englishmen finished his first nine holes three over par which included a double-bogey at 15.

He did battle back without dropping a single shot on his second nine holes, finishing three under par.

Fleetwood manage to birdie the first, fourth and ninth holes leaving him currently tied inside the top 40.

The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass is considered by many the fifth major of the year.

Fleetwood will be looking to improve on his disappointing 61st place finish at The Arnold Palmer Invitational last week.

He finished three over par for the tournament with eventual winner Kurt Kitayama finishing nine under par.

The Players Championship doesn’t come without its controversies with defending champion Cameron Smith banned from the tournament after joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League.

Fleetwood will be looking to reproduce this hole-in-one he made on the 17th when he tees off for his second round at 17:12 UK time tomorrow (March 10th).
