Prescot Cables are set to travel to Harrison Park thie weekend (Sat 16 March) to meet Leek Town who sit top of the Northern Premier League-West Division.

The league leaders hold a 15-point lead over Cables who are second in the division. But the visiting side have a game in hand so a win on Saturday could be the start of a real title race if they can also capitalise.

Prescot will be looking to avenge a 1-0 defeat suffered to the league favourites just over a month ago that saw Marc Grocott scored the winner in the 63rd minute.

A return to their regular good form is also needed for Prescot as they have only picked up eight points in their last six games. Leek Town, in contrast, have continued to be in league-winning form as they are unbeaten in their last six games, picking up 16 points.

Former Liverpool FC under 23’s striker Fidel O’Rourke has recently signed for Cables and was available for this week’s game in the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup against Bootle. He could potentially make his first appearance for the club this Saturday.

The visiting team will have to find a way to neutralize Leek’s attack. This has been their strong point this season having scored 72 goals in 30 games.

Rob Stevenson must be watched closely as he has scored 19 goals in all competitions for the home team. However, Prescot have a dangerous striker of their own in John Murphy who has scored 13 this season and could potentially cause trouble for the home side.

Cables manager Steven Daley has pointed out how important every game is at this stage of the season.

He said: “Every game now is massive isn’t it. We’ve just got to take it one match at a time.”
