Football journalist Andy Brassel says Arne Slot is no “shrinking violet” and believes Liverpool fans will take to his style.

Slot is reportedly in contract talks with Liverpool to take over the hot seat next season when Jurgen Klopp leaves.

European football expert Brassel described Slot’s high-pressure attacking style as one that will appeal to Liverpool fans.

He told Sky Sports News: “The way he wants to attack is something that will really appeal to Liverpool fans, someone who always wants to find a way to put pressure on his opponents, to press to score goals.”

He believes Liverpool’s interest is no surprise to English clubs after he won the Dutch league title last season with Feyenoord.

“This guy has a consistent record of success and has played attacking football for over a number of years,” added Brassel.

“He could have easily won the league with AZ Alkmaar had the league not been brought to an abrupt end (COVID), of course, no Dutch title was awarded in that season.”

Jurgen Klopp has won eight trophies as manager of Liverpool, including a Champions League and a first league title in 30 years during the 2019-20 season.

He has since decided to call quits on his nine-year tenure at the Merseyside club.

Klopp’s decision shocked Liverpool fans, who were uncertain who would be appointed to rebuild the club after Klopp finally left.

But Brassel says Slot has a successful record of redeveloping teams and working with the youth.

“The idea of redeveloping teams and working with younger players is something that chimes with Liverpool at the moment.

“No one is quite like Klopp,” Brassel said.

“But Slot is no shrinking violet at all, and we have seen this in European games against Roma when he has come face to face with Jose Mourinho, upset him, and not back down.

“Premier League clubs have known he would fit well here for a while.

“The Premier League has moved more towards possession and the front foot, so it’s probably the right time for Arne Slot.”
