Liverpool Women’s manager Gareth Taylor insists he’s “enjoying the challenge” despite his side facing their worst ever start to a WSL season if they fail to win on Sunday against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Reds are currently enduring their toughest spell yet failing to register a single point in all six of their WSL starts.

Taylor maintained a defiant stance on his team’s future, stressing that panic is not the answer.

“I’ve never been used to losing, but I’m enjoying the challenge,” Taylor said.

“It’s easy to say that this has been the toughest period of my coaching career, nothing can prepare you for that.”

Taylor pointed to a lack of execution in recent games, particularly last week’s defeat to Tottenham.

He added: “We have been unfortunate to not win any points so far.

“In the Tottenham game we could have been more assertive.”

Liverpool’s struggles have been compounded by a lack of squad depth with injuries to key players.

Star striker Leanne Kiernan and defender Alejandra Bernabe remain sidelined as the reds continue to battle fitness issues.

However, there was encouraging news regarding forward Mia Enderby following a worrying moment in the last match.

“It looked bad at the time, and we had to take necessary precautions, she is now back in training,” said Taylor.

Rivals Brighton will be without on-loan striker Michelle Agyemang who misses the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

Brighton sit seventh with just seven points in seven games and will be looking to bounce back after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United.

Taylor added: “Brighton are a team who can be a match to anyone on their day.”

Liverpool will be encouraged by their head-to-head record, as the Reds have won the past three encounters against the Seagulls.

The teams face off at St Helens Stadium for the first time since September.
