Sean Dyche is set to return to Merseyside this weekend as his Nottingham Forest side take on Everton.
The former Toffees manager should receive a warm welcome from Evertonians on his return, after guiding the Blues to safety twice despite a heavy 8-point deduction.
After Dyche’s sacking in January 2024, David Moyes returned to Goodison Park after an 11 year absence and immediately hit the ground running, reigniting the attacking spark which led to a comfortable mid-table finish.
Despite this increase in attacking output, the strong defensive foundation that Dyche instilled at the club remained.
Dyche took nine months away from management before replacing the struggling Ange Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest in late October.
He has enjoyed an impressive start to his Forest career, winning five of his nine games in all competitions including a shock 3-0 win at Anfield.
Everton have enjoyed a strong campaign so far, with Moyes’ side finding themselves in the top half and only one point away from a European place.
The Toffees’ attack has become one of the best in the league with star wingers Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye excelling under Moyes’ leadership and summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall finding his best form again.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Dyche said: “I worked hard at Everton and very happy with the work I did there overall.
“I left on good terms with everyone there and said look, this is the way it goes, and moved forward and I have done.
“My time there is done and now it is about Nottingham Forest football club, that is all I am interested in.”
