Whitefield (Roby) Cricket Club is opening its doors for members to donate non-perishable food items, as well as shampoo and shower gel.

The club posted on their Facebook page that they will be accepting contributions at select times on the 13th, 14th and 20th of December in a bid to help people who need it most.

Based in the Huyton area, Whitefield have a proud history of community work, from a previous food bank donation that required two vans to deliver all the goods, to a Christmas toy collection for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The cost-of-living crisis of today drives home the importance of sports clubs doing work in the community to mobilise people and help families who are struggling to get through the Christmas period.

Our reporter Jacob Howson has been speaking to the club’s chairperson, Simon Eagles.
