Former Tranmere Rovers, Newport County and Morecambe forward Kevin Ellison has become part of an exclusive group of global football players to achieve 1,000 senior club appearances in their career.

Ellison joins 54 others to reach the remarkable milestone, including the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

The 46-year old Liverpudlian now plies his trade in the Northern Premier League for Vauxhall but has a resume that boasts over 650 English football League (EFL) appearances.

In 2001, Ellison’s sole Premier League appearance came as a youngster for Leicester City against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Despite being a talented footballer, the ex-Stockport County man will be most remembered for his gentleman-like nature off the field.

In 2020, Newport defender Mark O’Brien was sadly forced to retire aged 27 due to medical issues and he says that Ellison became one of the most important people during a tough period in his life.

O’Brien said: “Kev helped me out so much, he was always a bubbly character and gave me the confidence to have tough talks with him about what I was going through at the time.”
