Liverpool boss Arne Slot has said the team has “not found the consistency to get consistent results” ahead of their game with Manchester City.

Slot feels it will be helpful to play at Anfield in front of their own fans as Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Premier League this Sunday at 4.30pm.

After their impressive 4-1 win over Newcastle United last time out, the Reds will be looking to continue their winning streak.

When asked about their performance against Newcastle, Slot said: “We have played much better football than that game.

“It is difficult to find the momentum and pace that we showed in the last hour of the game.”

He believes the game against City will be a good test as they are big contenders to compete with Arsenal.

He believes this game is another moment to see where the team is with development.

Slot said: “It’s the end phase of the season, so results matter more and more.”

With the defence struggling with injuries, heads are turning to Virgil van Dijk and whether he will be signing a new contract.

When asked about Van Dijk, Slot said: “We are aware Virgil will not play for 10 more years.

“If he stays as fit as he is now, he could stay past his contract.

“We are not stupid, we know that somewhere there is life for this club without Van Dijk.”

Turning to the City game, Slot wants the team to find the perfect balance and create the perfect chances to score.

Slot said: “When you play against City, it isn’t certain you will have the ball more than them.”

Jeremie Frimpong will miss this weekend due to injury, and Joe Gomez will hopefully train on Saturday with the Reds but will not start. He is available to help the team if needed.
