Former Liverpool legend John Toshack has been diagnosed with dementia, revealed his son Cameron.

The 77-year old scored 74 goals in 172 games during an eight year stint with the reds from 1970-1978, winning nine trophies.

The Welshman also enjoyed plenty of managerial roles, including multiple spells at Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and Wales.

His son Cameron, who also played professional football and currently serves as a coach in Thailand, revealed to the Daily Mail that his dad goes through “good days and bad days.”

He added: “It’s a terrible disease. It’s the short-term memory where we’re seeing it – I speak to him most days and if we chat in the afternoon, he might not remember that we also spoke in the morning.

“But if I ask him about the Liverpool days, or Sociedad or Madrid, the detail is amazing.”

Toshack began his career at Cardiff City before joining Bill Shankly’s Liverpool, where he won three league titles, two UEFA cups, one European Cup and an FA Cup.
