When Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp in the Liverpool hotseat in summer 2024, the Dutchman had big boots to fill.
Following in the footsteps of such an iconic manager was always going to be a big ask. But Slot exceeded all expectations by winning the Premier League in his first season at Anfield, a feat it took Klopp four years to achieve.

Wins, draws and losses in the first 30 Premier League games.
Klopp finished his first season with the Reds in a more promising place than under Brendan Rodgers the year before. A total of 30 games played in the Premier League resulted in 13 wins, nine draws and eight losses in the 2015/16 season, since his arrival in October.
By comparison, Slot’s first 30 games lifted confidence with 22 wins with only one loss. Of course, the strength of the squad was evidently better when Slot took over from Klopp and, although the squad still faced seven draws in that run of games, it was a significant contrast to the number of full-time celebrations they experienced in Klopp’s first season.
Liverpool’s overall goals haven’t changed drastically but there is a clear difference between how both managers impacted the team in their first few seasons.

The comparison of goals scored with both managers in the Premier League – 2016/17 and 2025/26 are first eight games only.
In Klopp’s first season the club had an overall record of scoring 55 Premier League goals whereas Slot’s team registered 73.
Within the first eight games of his second season competition, the German’s goal stats sit at 20. A tough few weeks for Liverpool this season have set them back in comparison to Klopp with just 14 goals league goals scored so far.

Finals Liverpool played in Klopp and Slot’s two seasons so far.
The bar chart above is a comparison of finals the club played in. In Klopp’s first season, Liverpool appeared in the Europa League final against Sevilla, losing 3-1. they also reached the Carabao Cup final that year, losing on penalties to Manchester City.
