Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to prove his squad’s “fighting spirit” against Italian table-toppers Napoli, who come to Anfield in red-hot form tomorrow night.
Despite both teams securing their place in the Champions League round of 16, the group winner is still to be decided promising a feisty affair.
Klopp has said as much himself, and told the media briefing today that “we do not stop fighting”.
It will be the eighth time Klopp has faced the “Partenopei” during his tenure at Liverpool, winning twice, drawing once and losing the rest.
The most recent was a heavy 4-1 defeat away in Italy at the start of the Champions League group stage.
The Reds have struggled with consistency so far this year, but Klopp is sure that they have what it takes to put that right, stating “to get out of something you have to go through it.”
Klopp was insistent that despite the disappointing Premier League results from the last two weekends, the players’ desire to fight is not something he is worried about.
Contrasting Liverpool’s form, Luciano Spalletti has got Napoli playing out of their skin and riding high at the top of the Serie A table.
Klopp believes they “have a good chance to go to the final” and praised their incredible counter attacking play and squad depth.
Fans should not expect many changes for Liverpool as Klopp has described the encounter as “not a game for massive rotation”.
The Kop will need to be in full voice if the hosts are to get the three goals needed to top the group.
