Liverpool tennis star Neal Skupski helped Great Britain to a crucial victory in David Cup qualifiers.

Skupski and doubles partner Dan Evans delivered a crucial 6-4 6-4 doubles win over Columbia’s Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.

The British duo won 82% of their first serve points, defeating the former World number one pairing without facing a break-point.

The win opened a 2-1 lead for Britain in the best-of-five match tie being played 2,640 metres above sea level.

Cameron Norrie then secured an unassailable 3-1 lead for the visitors with a straight sets victory over Nicolas Mejia later on Saturday.

Croatia, France and the USA also progressed to join Britain and defending champions Canada in the finals later this year.

The Davis Cup Finals Group Stage takes place the week commencing September 11.

A strong start to the 2023 season has returned Liverpool-born doubles specialist Skupski to the top of the tennis World doubles rankings.

He reached the quarter-finals of the men’s and semi-finals of the mixed doubles at the Australian Open in January.
