Southport F.C have confirmed they have parted ways with first team manager Jim Bentley and coach Alan Morgan following their 1-0 defeat away to local rivals AFC Marine.

The game was decided by a fiercely struck volley from Josh Wardle in the 55th minute, leaving the Sandgrounders 17th in the National League North.

The derby defeat was ‘Port’s third game in row without a win or goal, with Bentley’s side having won just three of their 16 matches in 2025.

In a statement Club Chairman Peter Mitchell said:

“On behalf of everyone at Southport FC, I would like to express our gratitude to Jim and Alan for their hard work and commitment.

“They have conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism throughout Jim’s tenure, and we wish both every success in their future endeavours.”

The first team will now be overseen by player-coach David Morgan while the club gets the process of appointing a new management team underway.
