REMYCA registered a sixteenth defeat in a row to remain bottom of the table as they went down 2-1 to play-off chasing Wythenshawe.

Goals from Aaron Dwyer and Bryan Lyn secured a 2-1 victory for the visitors despite a late fightback from REMYCA with Christopher Happi-Fankam scoring the home’s side only goal. Wythenshawe held on and now sit fourth in  the North West Counties Premier Division.

Litherland started on the front foot applying pressure but without creating anything dangerous.

The first real opening fell to REMYCA with Alessandro Trapasso-Tully who tried to catch the keeper out which a near-post effort which was parred away. Other than that attempt Litherland struggled to create a clean opening, despite getting themselves in dangerous positions throughout the first 45 minutes.

Conditions played their part with the wind causing issues for both teams. Litherland dealt with the pressure created by Wythenshawe while posing a threat on the counter attack.

Wythenshawe’s danger man was Darius Palmer who glided his way through the REMYCA defence before his effort was blocked.

Next, Palmer almost played Dwyer in from deep, but the striker couldn’t get on the end of it before Litherland’s George Huyton pushed over a free kick.

The game turned on its head before half-time with Litherland’s Charlie Glennon getting a straight red card following a late follow through on Lyn. This is now the third game in a row where REMYCA have been reduced to 10 men.

The visitors started the second half as they ended the first, dominating possession and looking most likely to make the breakthrough.

Wythenshawe eventually broke the deadlock with Dwyer getting in behind the Litherland defence twisting his way past Fraser Goodwin to smash in the opener.

Shortly after, Wythenshawe doubled their lead with Lyn tapping in from close range, following a fizzing cross from Ashley Leather.

In the closing stages the extra man advantage proved too much for REMYCA with the home side struggling to carve an opening or retain possession. The visitors took command of the closing stages and looked most likely to add a third.

However, with 10 minutes remaining REMYCA halved Wythenshawe’s advantage with a thumping strike from Happi-Fankam from close range. Wythenshawe failed to deal with a free-kick and the same almost happened minutes later with the REMYCA number 8 failing to get any contact on the ball after being left unmarked.

Next up for REMYCA is a home match against league leaders Padiham as they remain eight points adrift of Abbey Hey who are just above the drop zone in 22nd.
