Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield this summer, with their attention on Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine still has two and a half years left on his contract at the Anfield club, but United bosses are keeping a close eye on the Argentina World Cup winner.

The last time Manchester United an Liverpool did a direct transfer was in 1964, over 60 years ago, due to the rivalry with the two clubs.

Speaking to the winwin, Carlos Mac Allister, Alexis’ dad, stated that Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool: “We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is.”

The potential switch already faces a significant hurdle, as Mac Allister’s favoured squad number, No. 10, remains unavailable.

Matheus Cunha currently wears the No. 10 at Old Trafford and appears unlikely to relinquish the number in the near future.

With injury galore at Liverpool, the midfielder has been struggling to find his best form.

Mac Allister produced an improvement in form against Brighton in the 3-0 win during the fourth round of the FA Cup last Saturday.

Liverpool next play Nottingham Forest on Sunday in the Premier League.
