Coach Neil Danns said he is “proud” of his team after Southport drew 0-0 against Buxton at Haig Avenue on Tuesday night.
Southport had 17 shots compared to Buxton’s four, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
Injuries continue to be a problem for Danns after Luke Griffiths and Jake Taylor were forced off.
Yet Danns was happy with the team’s performance despite failing to secure a win.
Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, Danns said: “I’m as proud of that performance tonight as I was of the 5-1 victory on Saturday.
“The simple reason because it was obvious to see we had a few more injury problems again.”
Danns insisted that the injuries should not be used as an excuse for results.
He said: “We don’t make excuses. And the reason we don’t make excuses is because that’s what they’re capable of, that performance.
“It does feel like a chance to get three points… But again, under current circumstances, I’ll take that effort and desire and that willing to run for each other and scrap for each other.”
Danns was also full of praise for Josh Miles who had to fill in at left back.
He said: “I thought he was outstanding tonight… he’s a real threat, their right winger, and Miles stood up to the test today.”
Matty Williams played his first full 90 minutes in 16 months, and the team gave him a round of applause for his efforts.
Danns said: “We’re together and respect the effort of each and everyone.”
Despite the positive mood, Danns said he’s aware that there is still work to do.
He added: “There’s still a long way to go. This isn’t a victory interview”.
