Virgil Van Dijk has branded Mohamed Salah as important and states he is a player who has set the bar extremely high.

This comes after Salah admits his team were in ‘open talks’ with Saudi Arabian Pro League club Al-lttihad.

After Salah’s comments to the press saying he has been “thrown under the bus”, he was left on the bench for several games.

Since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, he has started every Liverpool game.

Van Dijk recently pointed out that Salah is still breaking records, as he currently has the joint most Premier League assists for the club, level with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard on 92 assists.

Speaking to the BBC, Van Dijk said: “There are so many things people don’t see what is important to try to become a successful team.

“Let’s see for the rest of the season how important he still is.”

Both players have struggled this season with their form, Liverpool sit sixth in the league with only 12 wins from 26 matches.

Both Salah and Van Dijk have a year left on their contracts.
