Tranmere Rovers Manager Pete Wild has urged that their final day relegation battle is “all in our hands.”
Rovers sit just one point above the relegation zone heading into the final game of the season on Saturday.
They will host sixth-placed Grimsby Town at Prenton Park.
A win will guarantee an entertaining last day survival in Sky Bet League Two for Rovers. Failure to win will see their fate decided by the results of Newport County, Crawley Town and Harrogate Town.
Tranmere’s Judgement Day – What do they need to stay in the EFL
The standard of refereeing in the division
Wild was critical of the decision to send a player off in Oldham’s visit to Newport County last week.
The dismissal subsequently saw Tranmere’s relegation rivals, Newport, come from behind to win. The card was rescinded following the game
Wild said: “It would be further in our hands if referees could do their jobs properly.
“My biggest frustration and anger this week comes at the fact that we’ve had no phone call to say sorry to any of these clubs around what’s gone on this week.
“Ultimately, such a crucial decision which was given in a different game to ours could have made the picture look a lot differently.”
Wild was asked if he would like to see a better way of these decisions being explained.
He said: “I’d like an apology and I’m sure Harrogate, Crawley and barrow want an apology as well because it’s ridiculous.”
The action plan to take on Grimsby
Wild spoke about what he will be asking of his players when lining up against Grimsby on Saturday.
He said: “Consistency will be key. We’ve got to make sure we control the football match.
“We have to understand Grimsby’s strengths and make sure we negate them, but where can we hurt Grimsby and where we can get after Grimsby.”
The need for change at Prenton Park
Wild expressed his thoughts on what needs to be changed at Prenton Park.
He said: “The owners situation is a start. Mark’s done a fantastic job to try to move this job in a direction, but that is now coming to an end.
“Recruitment is massive. Recruiting players for League Two, recruiting players that suit the league.
“It’s a unique league and you have to have players who can run hard and fight hard, more than you need footballers in this league.”
Injury newsÂ
Wild also gave updates on the club’s injury situation.
He confirmed that Omari Patrick will miss out on Saturday with a hamstring injury. It is estimated he will take 4 weeks to recover.
Wild also confirmed that defender Aaron McGowan will be available for selection, after training in recent days.
